Overview
An item shows Total Stock greater than zero in the Items browser, but a Quantity Adjustment opened at the logged-in location returns "Stock not available", or the item does not appear in the item lookup. This happens when the units are recorded in a different stock bin, or in a bin that has been discontinued. This article explains how to locate the bin that holds the stock and post the adjustment correctly.
Information
Cause
A Quantity Adjustment can only reduce stock from an active bin that belongs to the location you are logged into. If the units sit in another bin, or in a discontinued bin, Everest reports no stock available for that item.
Identify where the stock is
In Everest:
- Go to Inventory > Items and click the item's Total Stock value (not the item code) to open Item Stock Status.
- Select the location row, then Options > Stock Areas/Bin of Next Level.
- Select View > Include Out Bins. Note the bin that holds the quantity and whether it is marked as discontinued.
In SQL (read-only, run against EVEREST_<Company>):
SELECT x.item_no, x.area_code, x.q_stk, a.active, a.parent_area_code FROM x_stk_area x JOIN stk_area a ON a.area_code = x.area_code WHERE x.item_no = 'ITEM_CODE' AND x.q_stk <> 0;
Resolution
- If the bin is active: open a new Quantity Adjustment, type the full item code, and when prompted for the stock area select the bin that holds the units.
- If the bin is discontinued (
active = 'F'): reactivate it first. See Resolving "Cannot activate; the parent stock area is deactivated" when reactivating a stock bin.
